Taiwan!

Taiwan - 2012 from Terry Proveda on Vimeo.

Now to Him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to His power that is at work in us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen. (Ephesians 3:20-21)

Taiwan is a colorful, vibrant, open and exciting society. But underneath the modern facade, there is a dark side of superstition, fear, idolatry and spiritual oppression. Our organization, the International Mission Board (IMB), works to bring the hope of the gospel to these deeply religious people.

Our family will be working full-time as missionaries in Taiwan.  In order to build relationships, our work will include teaching English, discipleship training, and participating in projects with the International Mission Board.  These projects range from evangelism and church planting to training and equipping the local churches to form their own missionary teams. One particular focus is on the working class: disaffected youth, "at risk" kids, hurting women, the urban poor, hard working families. About two-thirds of Taiwan's 23 million people are working class. Over 99% of these people do not know Jesus Christ. There are tremendous needs for the gospel and the transformation it brings to lives and communities.

Our sending church is Ann Arbor Chinese Christian Church, where Steve is currently a pastor. This means they know us and send us from the local church and also provide global infrastructure support. They will help care for us by checking up on us while we are in Taiwan in order to address any struggles, needs, or prayer requests.

Our organization, SBC Direct, will provide training, give cultural insight, and help us obtain our visa and travel arrangements.   They will also provide language acquisition accountability, and provide goals and an annual evaluation.  Most importantly, we will be members of their team of missionaries who have been in Central Taiwan for many years.  We hope you will think of yourselves as our "stateside" team.
